Over the August Bank Holiday weekend, on Sunday 28th and Monday 29th, The Historic Dockyard will be holding the Medway Maritime Festival as a major contribution to the SeaBritain 2005 celebrations. This will be a festival that will encompass any and every aspect of maritime activity – be it in, on, under or to do with the sea. Themed ‘islands’ will showcase all things maritime, including the environment, sea safety, defence, ports and trade, music of the sea, conservation, maritime heritage, traditional crafts, sports and leisure and much more. Many organisations have already pledged their support by way of displays, including HM Coastguard, The Sea Cadet Corps, The Chamber of Shipping, the RNLI, the Jubilee Sailing Trust, and Marine South East.
The Historic Dockyard will come alive with nautical activities and fun for all age groups. As well as the specially brought-in displays, the regular attractions and galleries of The Historic Dockyard will also be open. These include the national collection of historic RNLI Lifeboats, three historic warships - HMS Gannet (1878) HMS Cavalier (1944) and HMS Ocelot (1962) and the only fully operational traditional naval ropery in the world.
If you intend to come to this event, beware Speedline is on duty both days
Historically these types of event are a great day out for the whole family.
